Hotel De Filosoof

Hotel De Filosoof is a hotel dedicated to philosophy. It is is an unique 3 star hotel situated in several late 19th century houses. Located in a quiet neighborhood in Amsterdam just steps away from the beautiful Vondelpark. Hotel de Filosoof' s uniqueness is that each of the 38 rooms is decorated in different philosophical and cultural themes.

For example Passion. This room is dedicated to the French philosopher, Georges Bataille. The title of the book, “The Tears of Eros” is the inspiration for this room. What physical love (Eros) does not know tears? Bataille tries to combine Eros (concepts of erotism, and sexuality) with morals (concepts of death, art and religion). Passion, lust and pleasure stand in contrast with, and at the same time very close to, concepts of horror, anxiety and death. Or a room that  features the “Golden Age” of Holland (the 17th Century), and the philosophers that flourished in that period, notably Descartes and Spinoza. Descartes praised Holland as: “Such a delightful country! Everybody leaves me in peace, because their only concern is to make money.”

Hotel de Filosoof has a bar/lounge, library and a spacious garden with terrace for relaxing. There are two conference rooms available. All rooms have private facilities, telephone and cable TV. An elevator is available for easy access. The old city center is within walking distance as well are the main museums, art galleries, entertainment and shopping areas.
